The History and Therapeutic Effects of Halotherapy
In the early 1800s, a doctor by the name of Feliks Boczkowski noticed something very interesting about the workers in the Wieliczka Salt Mine in Poland. The workers who spent their days working in the salt mines were healthy and had less respiratory issues than the miners who worked other types of mining jobs. The lung conditions that so commonly effected many miners didn’t seem to be an issue for the salt miners. This near-200-year-old observation is the foundation for the salt rooms we have today and this wellness trend known as Halotherapy.
Halotherapy or “salt therapy” offers drug-free therapy for clients of all ages. A halogenerator is used to break down pharmaceutical-grade salt into micro-particles and release them into the air to be inhaled. This all natural, holistic treatment takes place in a dry, humidity controlled environment that recreates a natural microclimate nearly identical to the European salt mines. Five inches of pink Himalayan salt covers the floor, while ambient lighting and tranquil music ushers you into a state of deep relaxation. This special microclimate has been found to have a wide array of beneficial effects. Some of the most positive results have been seen in people suffering from the following conditions:
Asthma/Allergies/Chronic Bronchitis
Respiratory Disorders and Excess Mucus
Sinus Infections & Hay Fever
COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease)
Snoring & Sleep Problems
Acne/Eczema/Psoriasis
Skin Irritation/Rashes
Inflammation
High Cortisol Levels
Chronic Cough
Emphysema
Cystic Fibrosis
Ear Infections
Stress, Anxiety, & Fatigue
On top of its ability to help manage the symptoms of these common problems, halotherapy can be used as a preventative therapy due to the antibacterial, antiviral, and anti-inflammatory properties found in the salt.
